Wide Awake

The sun is rising and the day begins
the teeth snap the skin with a pop
a spray of sweet juice explodes in my mouth
and the tongue pulls flecks of fruit
and chomp away at the chunk bitten
And leaving the lips tart and sticky
the slight burn of sharp juice
tingles on the inside of the cheeks
and leaves me wide awake
