Ode to Heart

Essence of life,
bearing blood throughout the system.
your beat
carries breath
life
hope
feeling,
feeling for the entity it wrenches for.

Your atrium holds the truth,
while the ventricle
holds your sentiments.
Acting as a whole,
life takes a turn
for the better,
worse,
the in between.

Your dance,
rhythm,
beat,
every second gives
a gift.
A gift greatly
needed to continue
on
and
on
until a moment,
the heart meets
another.
The beat,
rhythm,
dance,
stops,
skips,
stutters,
then beats even
brighter,
bringing life,
hope,
feeling,
back again.

This time, it beats with another.

The author's comments:
During my poetry unit in my creative writing class, I wrote this poem to include in an assignment. Even though it was for an assignment, I felt accomplished from it and learned more about my own style of writing. I hope that people will see it not just some dumb love poem, but an appreciation for the heart and all that it does.
