One more time... with feeling

You reside in the spaces
Between the cracks in my heart
I couldn’t handle the fact I will never see you again
It slipped between my fingers
Your memories live in every place I go
And the bits of sound
Unroll in my ears
So stay
In between little and longer
Because that will be enough
This ticking clock has made me deaf to the sound of goodbye
And all I hear is
"Hello"
"I love you"
And sometimes
And only sometimes
I can hear
"I’ll see you soon"
But never
Goodbye
Teardrops on fingertips
And your smell on my skin
You left
Two tail lights
Suspended in black ink
Stay just a little

This was origionally a slam poetry piece about my first boyfriend. He moved away to a different state about 6 months after we started dating. It was my first experience with someone leaving so it was very painful. I remember thinking that things would have been better if he had stayed just a little longer instead of driving away. As I watched him his tail lights fade into the dark I could still feel his tears on my fingertips.
