Your love was like an addiction to drowning
It started off so sweet and innocent
like a morning swim
there was sunrise
and you…there was you
But over time, sunrises turned to sunsets
and all the beauty and love…disappeared
It was like the water would call me and…
I would go knowing I shouldn’t
It would be a nice swim at first
Nice water
Warm waves
And you, there was you
But then the waves would come
And I would drift farther
farther from love
farther from beauty
farther from you
And I would go under
My pain would leave me breathless…
Struggling to get free
free from love
free from beauty
free from you
but my struggling didn’t work, neither did my pleas
you abandoned me, left me alone
my addiction moved in, and left me…

The author's comments:
i was thinking about abusive relationships and thought about how the victims are always bound and kind of under a spell that leaves them captive. they can't break away and sort-of don't want to even though they know they should. used my own personal experience.
