Daddy
Day before my tenth birthday,
Daddy said he had to go.
Momma said she understood,
Just wanted him to know.
Baby you go and I’ll wait for you,
I’ll be here when you come back.
It’s okay because I love you too,
And I understand what you have to do.
Momma waited,
Through the hurt and the pain.
But Daddy didn’t come back.
Months then years did pass.
But every day,
She did say,
Baby you go and I’ll wait for you,
I’ll be here when you come back.
It’s okay because I love you too,
And I understand what you have to do.
Daddy left eight years ago,
For that place called Iraq.
There was an explosion.
But,
For a whole eleven minutes,
He did live.
For he told Uncle Jo to tell Momma,
Baby I have to go now,
But I’ll wait for you,
Don’t wait there,
Go travel the world,
For I can’t make it back.
It’s okay because I love you too,
And I know you understood,
What I had to do.

‘Maybe Richard will find another way. Just tell him, Alice. Tell him that his own Confessor never stopped loving him. And that if he can’t undo the magic, if he can’t return to her then, she’ll be waiting for him, in the Underworld. Forever.’
