I want a sitting porch.
I want to taste the calm
chirp of crickets and crimson autumn leaves
I want a place to shed snow off of my icicle eyes

and rock away the seasons

I want a sitting porch.
I want to feel peaches'n'cream
content fuzz. Bitter mouths long for
such as treat as to tingle on their tongue

and rock away all worries

I want a sitting porch.
I want to hear the expressions
of dear ones faces as they find haven
at the front of my home as they nibble

and rock away precious memories

I want a sitting porch.
I want to see the hustle of
hair-brained scurriers and feel that all
humanity needs is a quiet moment on my step

and rock away a good life

Most of all....

I want a sitting porch.
I want a sense unlike anything
every someone feels. I want a place
to let go of typical every time emotions

and rock away

The author's comments:
Life is a marathon. I'm one of the thousands of devoted participants. I get caught up in the competition, but once in a while I long to be the girl running the water station. Watching life is nearly as fulfilling as living it. Maybe the only true winner of this marathon is the one who takes a break and discovers the beauty in rocking away on a sitting porch.
