This Terrifying Melody
This terrifying melody
The hollowed chimes of the lonely bell
As it rings one last time
 Before cracking and retiring

 This last solitary plead
From the heart of the cathedral
 Echoes throughout my mind
Like the wind across the sand
 Ripples back and forth
As the waves on the ocean

Your last call to the sea
 Beckoning me to your consciousness
 Across my diluted destiny
 That I must soon cross

 I feel in my heart
That I will never be whole
 Unless I travel your path
 Witness your tribulations for myself
Only then can I determine who I truly am
 Where my loyalties lie

Maybe the ocean has distorted your mind
 Your priorities are immobilized
 Or are they?
Am I really not worth your time?
Am I not your one and only?
As you have told me time and time again
 Am I not the first?

Is my heart designed to be an empty box
 A vacant shell?
Like the one that I received last spring
As a token of your return

 What lies beneath the waves?
 I will never know
 For you are gone
And the secret remains in my past
 The one I never knew
 The people I never met
 All because of you

But I now know that you have forgotten
 Everything that you promised
You will not be coming back

 So all I can do
Is sit on this cobble stone path
That led me to the house of worship
Where your funeral procession took place

And listen to the lonely bell
As it chimes one last time
 For your memory
For what you meant to me
For the life you never lived
 While I am left here
 Listening to this terrifying melody
