stretching.

We're out of the car,
stretching our legs
in a town I don't even know
the name of.
Nerves are
being stretched,
and my heart is
being stretched.
The further
we go,
the tighter
it pulls.
Soon it will snap
in two,
and neither
of the pieces
will belong to me.
