Dear Santa

Dear Santa,
I know I've not been good this year,
Although I swear I try,
I snap at Mom and Dad too much,
I'll sometimes tell a lie.

I stay up past my bedtime,
I'll even skip a chore,
I lock myself inside my room,
I've started swearing more.

I go online too much, I know,
And while it'll never be enough,
I'd like to say I'm sorry, Santa,
Things have just been rough.

My teachers aren't too fond of me,
My friends all think I'm sad,
I know my parents worry,
So I kind of feel bad.

They shouldn't worry, Santa,
I know that I'll be fine,
I'm learning much about myself,
Trying hard to shine.

It's difficult some days, I know,
But among the stuff I've learned,
Material things mean very little,
And some things must be earned.

You know, of course, it's wintertime,
And Christmas will soon be here,
I'll only ask for one thing, Santa,
Please lend me your ear.

My ipod still plays music,
I can live without a cell,
I don't really want a pony,
My clothes still serve me well.

I love my new computer,
I'm too young for a car,
I already have a puppy,
And the moon's a bit too far.

I'm very lucky, Santa,
I have things that some do not,
I won't ask for anything material,
I see now I have a lot.

I thank you for what you've given me,
Although I have to say,
There is one thing I want
For which I'd trade it all away.

It's kind of hard to ask this,
But I hope you'll understand,
I love a girl in England,
Something I hadn't planned.

She truly cares about me,
She knows just how I feel,
She can always cheer me up,
And I long to know she's real.

Her voice is gorgeous, Santa,
I wish that you could hear!
Her smile makes my heartbeat jump,
Her laugh tickles my ear.

I love her with all of my heart, you see,
But one thing's in my way,
An ocean stands between us,
So apart we've had to stay.

She wants very much to see me,
And I want to see her too,
But I'll never get there on my own,
And so I'm asking you.

I know it may seem crazy,
I know I'm still a child,
But as the time with her goes by,
My heart is growing wild.

I've never wanted anything more,
Then to sit inside your sleigh,
Take me to the stars with you,
Take me far away.

Fly me to a distant shore,
So I may see her face,
Send me far across the world,
To feel her warm embrace.

Christmas fast approaches,
A time when miracles abound,
I pray for one to find me now,
And take me off the ground.

I know I've not been good this year,
Although I swear I try,
I'm handing in my homework now,
I'm learning how to fly.

I do the things I'm asked to,
I do my best to not forget,
I know I can slip up sometimes,
That's something I regret.

I promise I'm still learning,
I promise I'm not giving in,
I promise I'm trying to do better,
I promise you I'll win.

I know I asked for something
That is very hard to give,
I know that times are hard right now,
I know that I must live.

I don't need any other gifts,
For the next 8 billion years,
Nothing could mean more to me,
Then the chance to have her near.

I'll end this letter, Santa,
It's getting rather long,
I just want you to understand,
To hear my heart's song.

Here's hoping you have a good Christmas,
Filled with cheer and bliss,
I hope you see the good in me,
And grant me my one wish.

The author's comments:
This was both the easiest and the most difficult piece I have ever written in my life. It was written in just one day, a record for me. It has also barely been changed from the time I first put it on paper to this final copy, another record for me. It is my soul spread out on paper. It is everything I am.

The subject of this poem is my girlfriend, who I have been with for a rather long time now. She lives in England; I live in America, and we have never been able to meet. This is my Christmas list for this year. One item. All I ask.

Be who you are and say what you feel because the people who mind don't matter and the people who matter, don't mind. - Dr. Seuss

This was absolutely amazing! I loved it! I'm in nearly the same situation. I'm American, living in Africa...my boyfriend lives back in America. I miss him like you miss her.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other

people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

—Marianne Williamson

Wow this is talent! It made me cry.
