Each day she’d sit under
The oaks outstretched shade
Eating her lunch like it was a secret to be kept.

The dampening look in her
Dark eyes could have
Extinguished grass fires

Glancing up at
By passers
Her weary frown
Lines don’t budge

A guy strides by
Brilliant in grace,
Slows as he
Senses the girl’s longing

When his gaze meets
Hers, she regretfully
Looks away

Shyly looking back,
His smile catches her
Off guard

“Good day,” He says with a nod.

Vulnerably surprised,
A smile escapes.
