identity
Who are you to say what I can and can’t do?
Who are you to say whom I can and can’t see?
Who are you to say where I can go and when?
Who are you to say when I can and can’t do something?
Who are you to tell me how to lead my life?
I ask who you are and you reply “Mom and Dad”.
I ask who gave you that right and you say “the government”.
I ask why you treat me this way and you say, “Because it’s the norm in our society.”
So who makes the rules that I can’t be me?
Apparently, everyone.
This is the reason I can’t love the way I love.
This is the reason I can’t be who I want to be.
This is the reason I wonder whether it would be better for me to leave.
So if you are going to take my identity,
Take my life while you’re at it.
