They Are Only Things.
None of the
Gold stars
Or even the
Red marks
Can really tell you
That something is the best
Or the worst.
Things can be neither
The best
Nor the worst
Because, simply,
They just are.
These things that
Will inevitably
Perish
Beneath our feet
And become nothing more to us
Than the grey flecks of dust
Scattered across your book shelves
Flying away in the wind.
If we learn to accept
The fate of these overly dramatic
Things
That won't matter,
Then maybe
Maybe
Maybe
Once they're gone
Lost
Out the window,
It won't be such
A disaster.
