Because You're Gone

My friends are all around me,
But I’m all alone.
There’s a ripple in the space by my side
Every place I go.
That ripple is there for a reason, you see?
For that ripple is where you always used to be.
I stay with other people,
So I won’t be as lonely,
But I don’t know them,
They’re all strangers to me.
I walk down the halls,
And my hand misses yours.
That’s a pain somewhere inside me,
But I don’t know the source.
Every laugh that leaves my lips is hollow,
There are no steps of yours for me to follow.
I want to be left alone,
So the pieces of my soul can be re-sown.
By your ghost these rooms are haunted,
Your eyes, you lips, your arms leave me taunted.
I can’t see you, but I can feel your presence.
Your name is in every word of every sentence.
Thinking about you drives me crazy,
But you won’t get out of my mind.
I can’t breath, my vision is getting hazy.
I’m so afraid of being left behind.
Hold me close to you,
And promise you’ll never let me go.
I drown out the world with music,
Trying not to let my sadness show.
I put on a mask to comfort others,
I know the sorrow they feel.
Hugging them until they’re smothered,
Encouraging their wounds to heal.
All of this is because you’re gone,
But I know it was your time.
You’re my only love, remember that, I pray.
I’ll keep you in my heart
For forever and day.
