After struggling through my adolescent years
I eventually found my true calling working in the circus
I was the bearded lady
I married a wonderful man named Billy-Bob McGee
He loved me despite my unsightly facial hair
We died together in blissful mediocrity
I was lucky in that way

The author's comments:
In my junior year of high school, our American studies teacher wanted us to write a poem similar to Lee Edgar Master's style. He wrote epitaphs about various types of people. Masters' most famous work is called the Spoon River Anthology.
