Dinner Time Fun
Silver, pointy
Poseidon’s miniature trident
Dented appendages caused by crowded drawers
Daintily used
Caressing the engraved metal handle
Currier
Of freshly prepared quiche
And crispy romaine lettuce
Drenched in ranch dressing
Not just a fork.
Clenched strongly
Pleasure at your fingertips
Antique
Polished
Dancing lightly on twinkle toes
Twirling spaghetti
Like an eight year old ballerina
Decked from head to toe
In Pink tutus and a shiny pink leotard
Not just a fork.
As kids we played with our food
Separating vegetables
From cranberry sauce
Navigating rivers flowing with gravy
And mountains built tall with mashed potatoes
Older now
But there will always be
That silver fork to guide us around
The scratched surfaces of our dinner plates
Not just a fork.
