The Way It Is
I sit in the office,
reading bills
the face of Washington staring at me.
The easy job I have, in the White House.
I’m having a great time over here.
That’s the way it is for me though.
I get up,
I go to my office,
I sign bills,
Someone films me on TV, for everyone (I mean everyone) to see,
I can look out the window to see
the Potomac River,
the boaters in the hot summer weather,
but I’m stuck in the same place for nearly eight years,
with the same job.
At least it pays okay and the White House is a pretty big place,
even though it is about 200 years old!
Well, that’s the way it is here.
This world is so screwed up,
terrorists in the Middle East, hurting innocents,
and I’m supposed to help fix it!
Greetings from Washington, where no one seems to really care,
they just care about the people’s votes,
the previous election,
I can’t do anything without Congress’ permission
better me than Al Gore, though,
and probably some other Democrat
who seem to think that money is everything.
To them, that’s the way it is.
I love capitalism, man exploiting man, people complaining.
Our stupid three-part government that can’t get anything done.
Stupid Congress,
the opposite of progress,
can’t lower taxes,
can’t control spending.
I sure hope that the next president,
knows what he’s doing,
because then Congress won’t get anything done,
We can control the things that suck,
like capitalism, wars, and (worst of all) taxes.
But those things suck, and it will take some time to change them,
That’s the way it is.
