As I hear the music play,
I think,
“Will I get this right? Will I impress everyone?”
Escorts hold their partners close,
Never let them go.
Don’t step on their feet.
Don’t make a mistake.
Don’t talk.
Don’t even take an extra breath.
My partner and I try to move as one,
So many hours, none put to waste.
Silver heels shimmer in the garage light,
Clumsy walking and t-shirts drenched in sweat.
Hungry mosquitoes and drinks on the side,
The full moon is shining on a group of sixteen,
It’s one night closer to the big day.
