Solitary Clearing

Green grass fluttering in a sudden gust of wind,
Clouds crowwing towards the horizon,
A crimson sky, sun setting in the west.
Trees rustling from a stray draft of air,
Sunlight streaming through the branches,
Deer tracks disturbing the random placement of fallen leaves.
Only here, undisturbed, am I able to absorb the stillness, the tranquility.
The serenity of nature.
As I hear the sudden trill of a sparrow,
The clamorous calls of frogs,
The chorus of crickets,
And the groan of a tree limb caused by a sudden wind.
The rough bark pressing against my back,
And the soft touch of a blade of grass.
The delicate stroke of a breeze, wafting past my cheek,
A book in my lap,
Pages fluttering unchecked in the wind
As my thoughts drift astray.
A simple clearing in the woods,
Seemingly untouched by man
Peaceful, a chance to be alone, unbothered and unworried,
Only such a place as this
Could be a favorite of mine,
Where I am adrift in a portion of time.
