His swelled up leg
A trip to the doctor
Weeks of tests

Then the answer
He had cancer
Prostate cancer

He was 90
The surgery
Would be
Too risky

So he just
Got medicine
To help him
Feel better

And help
Him get
The pain

He was never
Going to get better
But he would
Stay with us

Visits to see
Him in Maryland
Listening to
His voice

Feeling his wonderful
Kindness and love
For us

Seeing his smile
As wide a grapefruit

I could sit on
His lap and
he would give
Me a back rub

Great Grampie
Was a very nice

When we saw him
He would give us
Some money

He would tell us
Stories while we
Sat with him

I can still hear
Him saying
To my family
And I

I love ya
I love all of

When we had to leave
To go back
To our home

We wouldn’t know
If we were saying
Goodbye for ever

Then some days
I would be sitting
And think about him

I’d cry for his pain
And because I loved him
Not wanting him
To go

One morning when
My mother and I where
At home

We got a call
From my grandmother

My Great Grandfather
Had past away

Tears filled my eyes
He had left us
I didn’t want him
To leave

I loved him
I was snuggled up
In my mothers

The two of us crying
My mother
Comforting me

Crying with love
And care for him
Thinking about
What it would
Be like
Without him

I felt a big hole in
My heart
It is a day i’ll
Never forget

He died in
Of 2008

I wonder if he’s
Up in heaven

I feel like he’s
Looking down

Watching me
Seeing me grow
Into who I am.

This poem is so sad and yet keeps a positive attitude. I love the ending! I always think the same thing about my grandpa, who died before I was born. It's really comforting to know that "he's looking down watching me", don't you think?
