Alone To See

Walk the halls of this house
With the lights all off
And not a soul to be heard
The moonlight silhouettes everything
The stars have returned
From their daily hibernation
The floor echoes the thunder of each step
The doors creak as I pass
The day is done, my work complete
As I retreat to my room
My permanent comfort zone
As no one is here
The silence, ubiquitous but fragile
My mind wanders all over
From today to years before
I perpetuate this peace
Until the night sits on my eyes
Growing heavier as the moon
Wanes in the sky
The bed calls my name
And I answer the call
I close my eyes
I drift off to sleep
By the sound of my beating heart
Every beat letting me know
That's one more day I lived
One more day I loved
I am lonely no more
