Cr-eea-kkkk

What was that?
My body is frozen
As I listen,
My ears strain in the heavy
Silence.
It was nothing,
Right?
It was a mouse,
Right?
My body goes limp.
My breath is forced
Out in a gusty sigh.
I close my eyes,
Trying to fall prey
To my exhaustion.

Cr-eea-kkk

My eyes fly open,
My heart is about to jump
Out of my chest!
My body is rigid
And I am holding my breath to the
Point of explosion!
The silence is dreadful.
I take one last breath,
As my door
Slowly is pushed open.
And wait, as
The shadows call.

Ever hear a noise in the night, and wonder what it is? You blow it off as nothing, but is it really
something?

I know exactly what you mean! <;D

And I love the last line--it just rings on in your head forever!
