The Drive
“Remember the Barbie jeep?” You asked
“Of course who could forget that?”
Back in preschool,
you and I would drive around,
up and down streets,
through the neighborhood,
in the pink Barbie jeep,
in the hot hot sun,
singing to the Spice Girls,
all day long
together.
Our parents
Said “we’re scared for the day
the two of you get
your licenses”
We would reply “That’s going to be
the greatest day of our lives!”
We waited and waited
for 12 years to be exact.
Daydreaming for the day
we would drive on our own.
Now we’re 16 and
we have our licenses.
And we’re still
driving around,
along the highways and roads,
as if we’re back in preschool
driving the Barbie jeep,
singing to Girl Talk,
all day long
together.
