To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. — Emerson

Your beauty makes me dizzy.
And I know that is generic to say.
But it is true. Breathing becomes a hassle
When I spend time with you.

Coffee is bitter. Did you know this?
I only just realized the other day
That it stains your teeth and makes your grin
Golden. It doesn’t really matter all that much.
You like coffee quite a lot.

And the cold makes your fingertips blue.
I didn’t realize this either until I got home
And my mom yelled at me for walking
Outside with bare feet in December. I didn’t realize.
You had been talking to me.

Maybe you are dangerous. The next line
Could be, did you know buses don’t stop
For green lights? I hadn’t realized because I heard
Your name being spoken as I was walking.

Thing is,
I probably wouldn’t mind finding out
If you were the last thought in my mind.
It’s a fair deal.
