The hippie says he believes in karma
That we’re born into schooling
That nature is self-correcting
He believes balance
That I have chosen a weighted existence
On a higher plane than him
The martyr says she believes in God
That we are born into testing
That heaven will correct us
She believes relinquishment
That I have chosen denial
And that I am more holy than her
The skeptic says she believes in logic
That we are born into bodies
That we must correct ourselves
She believes answers
That I have chosen questions
And that I am smarter than her
The agnostic says she believes in fate
That we are born into universe
That we will be corrected
She believes hope
That I have chosen pessimism
And that I’m more optimistic than her
The psychoanalyst says he believes in people
That we are born into society
That we must correct each other
He believes perception
That the wrong people chose what I saw
And that I have better vision than him
The therapist says she believes in feeling
That we are born into consciousness
That we must correct our emotions
She believes healing
That I have unwittingly chosen pain
And that I am tougher than her
I say I’m ready to believe anything
That we’re born into nothing
That we may always be incorrect
I believe nothing
That I’ve chosen nothing
And that I am both more honest
And more deceitful than them.
