Pride has always stood by my side.

It has been my friend and my enemy
It makes things easier
Yet complicated
It stands in the way of my feelings

It stands in the way of my heart
I try to push it away
Yet I can’t
It has become a part of my breathing
Though it has become a burden to my heart
It rewards me with strength and courage
I have learned that without pride I am nothing
Yet everything
I am powerful
Yet weak
But still, I hold it dear

It is my truest love
Yet it breaks my heart and scars me with tears
I have madly fallen in love with its illusions
And have allowed my feelings to be ruled by its intrusions
What mask do I wear?

I wear the mask of pride.
It promises protection
Yet I am left vulnerable
Even when I am flying
I am constantly falling
I am pride’s loyal servant

Yet a traitor in my darkest secrets
I have become the traitor of what is most important to me
I have chosen this life for myself
The life of deception

This is really powerful. I love how you describe pride, as a mask and a shield, and something that makes you vulnerable. Great job! I love it!
