Age keeps us apart

The distance between you and me is not miles,
it's years
Although our feelings fill inside us
we know it's not to be
for the difference is far too vast between you and me
Our friendship is treasured
while our age holds us apart
from becoming any more than we are.
I cannot imagine life without you by my side
and although we may never be more
i still love you
and say it now, with pride
