Pencil vs. Pen

Pencil
Shadows and Lightness,
One fading into another
Those who pick one up
And make a picture are worshipped
Awed
Revered
I used to be one
Until the lead broke
And I had no tool
So I looked to my left
And picked up a pen
Just to see,
I couldn’t leave this picture not drawn
It was too amazing
So a new era began
My left hand began an affair
With the ink pen
It caressed the cool
Metal,
Worshipped the watered ink before it dried
Began sketching in pen-
Is a thousand times more artistic than
Pencil
More beautiful than lead
Shadows become more than objective color tones
Every one is a decision,
With only two options
Of a blackened permanence
Or white, crisp space
There is no in between,
No indecision
Like a stupid pencil
Your creation
Cannot be by accident
Every line,
Every shape is purposeful
No lies can hide in the no-man’s land
Of charcoal and light grey
It is what it is,
Nothing more, nothing less
And so I left my pencil
Sitting on the edge of my desk for the rest of eternity
Watching in jealousy
As I make sweet art
With the new soul mate of my life
The pen.
