Where I'm From

I'm from "Ya'lls" and "Ain'ts",
I am from black lung coal miners and greaser jackets,
I am from Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra.
I am from southern belles and poodle skirts,
I am from Southern Baptists and Roman Catholics,
I am from rebellion.

I am from skinned knees and broken arms,
I am from the smell of freshly baled hay and tractor rides,
I am from comical uncles and multiple cousins.
I am from campouts and night fishing,
I am from fast cars and sea-dos,
I am my father

I am from microwave popcorn and fruit loops,
I am from dying Easter eggs,
I am from Kroger runs at three a.m.
I am from puppy prints in mud,
I am from homemade chocolate milk,
I am my mother

I am from baseball and soccer games,
I am from saddles and reins,
I am from a microphone in one hand, a guitar pick in the other.
I am from growing gardens and pulling weeds,
I am from movie nights on the living room floor,
I'm a composite of both.
