Breaking the Surface
Breaking the Surface 32
 Just a mile
 Until we reach the river
 We’d race
 Right from your house
 Not mine
 To the land
That felt like anything was possible
 We went
 Because we believed
 In its magic
 The magic that made anything
 And everything happen
 Our story began here
Among the lily pads and the dew covered grass
 Nothing but the boundaries
 Of our imagination
 Could keep us down
 We’d launch ourselves
 Into the icy water
That seemed to go down to the center
 Of the Earth
 With nothing but white sand
 Beneath our feet
 We’d plunge down deep
 Until we were completely submerged
 In nothing but our thoughts
 And complete silence
 We’d come up gasping
 For air
 And we’d laugh
Because we knew the rivers magic was all around us
