Deep inside my mind
Lurks a shadow
One I know so well

I’ve been fighting a lifelong battle
Against a shadow I can’t defeat

I need help
I am so alone

I run but it follows
I forget yet it torments my mind

Through this dark I hear a voice
A voice so clean and pure

It cries “My son, my son”
You were never alone

I cry for help but the voice is gone
The shadow screeches with laughter
At its victory

Then the voice says “I have not left, just believe”
The shadow screams

I believe I scream the shadow flinches
Leave me I yell

The shadow runs to hide
But I follow

Finally the shadow departs
And I awake

I open my eyes to see the ones I love
I tell them to believe and they will win

I have won the battle and the war
So I silently fade away

I awake again to the shining radiance
Of a man in robes

“You believed in me” says the voice from my mind
Stay with me forever I say
I again close my eyes never to open them again
