Whispers of Hope

Whispers in the night
Woven into a little girl’s dreams.
They take her away,
Lead her with their gentle voices.
They unveil her eyes
Show her worlds unknown.
Whispers in the night
Weaving together a little girl’s universe.
They give her light,
Give to her beauty and radiance.
They teach her wondrous things
Of gods and goddesses who shape this world.
Whispers in the night
Weave a little girl’s dreams.
They give her life,
Raise her as their own.
They crown her their successor
When they are gone.

Whispers in the night
Weaving a path of light for a little girl.
They are her mentors
Fathers and Mothers of this new life of hers.
They guard her from harm,
Love her, adore her, yet also teach her life.
Whispers in the night
Woven into a little girl.
They become her,
Entrusting to her their knowledge.

They kiss her head,
Brush away her tears,
Whispering in her ear,
‘We will always be with you, our little one.
We have so much we still have to show you.’
And, with her hand in theirs,
They lead her back to the waking world
So that she could show others
What she had become.
And with that, her eyes open,
The whispers of knowledge
Still fresh in her mind.
With no time to waste,
The little girl writes what
She has been taught.
All day she neither eats nor drinks.
She just sits at her desk,
Writing down the whispers of the night.

Then, when evening falls,
She climbs into bed,
Closes her eyes to this world,
And opens them to the adoring embraces
Of her new found mentors.
They take her gently by the hand,
And lead her away
Whispering in her ear,
‘Weave the tale of hope, little one.
Give your people hope.’

What they showed her next
Was terrible to behold.
They showed her the dark stain
Of hatred, death, famine, war, and poverty.
They let her hear
Cries of the oppressed and the screams for mercy.
What they had shown her
Was horrible to behold.

They whispered to her,
‘Show them the light of hope, our dear one.
Give your people hope.’
This task was much harder than the last.
The little girl looked to her mentors for help.

What they showed her next
Was beautiful to behold.

They showed her that, though there was hatred,
Love would always be there to mend what it has torn apart.
They told her that, though there was death,
Life would always be there to awake that which it has silenced.
They showed her that, though there was war,
Peace would always be there to calm its horrible rage.
They told her that, though there was famine,
Mankind would always have the will to fight it.
They showed her that, though there was poverty,
There were those who will always be there to help those it has taken.

‘You see,’ they whispered in her ear,
‘Even when there is fear,
Hope will always shine brighter.’
What they had shown her, all that they had told her,
Was hope.
And that was beautiful to behold.

So when the little girl awoke,
She wrote everything she had seen and heard from her mentors.
She wrote about love, life, and peace.
She wrote about the will to survive and selfless hearts.
But above all,
She wrote about hope.
And the whispers of the night rejoiced,
For their child had given mankind
What they had been yearning for.
‘Well done, our dear one,’ they whispered in her ear,
‘You will forever be the sun
To light the darkness of the night.’

The whispers of the night
Have woven a little girl’s dream.
They gave her a beacon of light,
A reason to always see what is right.
They showed her something beautiful
Amidst the chaos of destruction.
The whispers of the night
Have woven a little girl’s dream of hope
And that is beautiful to behold.
