The Final Countdown

September 3, 2009
You’ve never seen my face,
You’re too busy looking around,
At everything else but me,
The one who wants your gaze to land upon her

Months creep by,
The tick of the clock as my mind races,
My friends harsh in one ear,
You soft in the other

It seems to be a trick,
Can I figure it out in time?
Tick, tick, tick,
The final countdown

Finally free from your spell,
I’m still drawn to you,
An inexplicable, unexplainable pull,
To do what I shouldn’t

All you wanted was something I’d never give,
Exploitation, explanation, exploration,
My permission to do what you wanted,
Letting you inside

Tick, Tock, Tick,
Knowing what you want,
Trying not to give in, convincing myself,
It’s over
