June 2009
That fateful day of sadness.
Summer is almost here,
but there is no reason to cheer.

The sun has left.
The rain has come.
Raindrops fill our eyes.

Uncle Jim, Uncle boat ride, Uncle corvette
Son, Dad, Grandpa
Jim S. C.
You are in our hearts
until we walk alongside of you again.

A young boy,
Sam,
Wanders helplessly in search
for fast car guy.

An even younger girl,
Jillian,
Woke up as you fell into
your eternal slumber.

We cry while
the angels sing with
joy, happiness, and blessedness.

We know that we cannot change
His choice to take you home,
but it hurts all the same.

When I was young
you were the only person mom would trust
to take me tubing.
That really has not changed.

Even as the years went
you sold your house, then your boat,
and bought a corvette.
You were still uncle boat ride to me.

I never thought it would
hurt so bad
not to see you with a beer in your hand
or at a family party.

I will always remember the one who taught me to play Euchre.

The sun had gone and the rain had set in.
The memories will always be with us,
but the sun must come again.

The author's comments:
My uncle died of cancer last year. It was a very emotional time for my family. My uncle never lost hope, even when he knew it would not be long until he would die. I hope this poem inspires people not to lose hope. Hope is too valuable.
