The white foam
Glides over my feet
We wait
This one flies up to me knee
I hear a giggle
Or the smallest of laughs
My laugh is throaty
But it is hearty
Like Thanksgiving turkey
We wait
Identical curls blow into our faces
My hand over hers
The same sand under our feet
There is a cry in my laugh now
There are beginnings in the waves

This poem was inspired by a trip to the beach with my cousins. We live far away from each other, so it meant a lot to me to spend time with one of the youngest and realize I could be a part of her life.
