I greet the butterflies

with a wistful sigh.

A puff of air,

and the memory of you.

The world made them for you,

and now you're everywhere.

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece very abruptly a few months ago. A person who I had kept very close to my heart suddenly slipped out of my life, leaving only traces of their once existing presence. Of those traces, the most palpable one is the butterflies I see almost every day. Any distinct image of a butterfly was a direct connection to this person, as they had expressed their fascination with butterflies to me countless times. Although they are now physically out of reach, no matter how far my arms extend, their presence has increased tenfold; I see them with every corner I turn.
