Soldiers on the battlefield

Bloody and battered

Running for their lives

Hoping to be spared

By the brutality that is war

And that one day

The grass that has been torn

And the flowers that were trampled

Will be seen again

In the form of a garden

Or a child

And in someone to love.

They hope that the flowers will not be included

In the count of the dead.

Chilling yet pretty unique take, especially with the last two lines. The concept of being spared BY the brutality makes me shrivel just thinking about it.
