White.

It is all

Too

White.

A blanket

of snow

Clouds my

Vision too

Much to see the

Black-browned wind

Scream

From an achy mouth

With the waterlogged

Eyes of my people.

White noise,

White face

Too struck

Of a splash

Of color

It so desperately

Needs to

Hope          maybe one

Of these screams

Will be loud enough

To break glass.

Break white

Let it melt

Into tears of

Anyone other than us

Waterlogged eyes

Black tongue

Is the only

Savior

From all that is

White.

Black tongue.

The author's comments:

I wrote this during class for a prompt. We had just read “Lament of Iaroslavna,” and I felt that the language it used really spoke to me. While I didn't feel as though my poem could fully encapsulate what I was trying to say, I liked the way it contrasted with the original piece.
