You told her to wash the clothes just right

You know don’t mix the white with the bright

You taught her to cook and clean

And how to iron jeans

You told her to close her mouth

While she eats or no man will ever want her

You told her to cross her legs she's not a boy

But sometimes she feels like a toy

A puppet controlled by society standards

Always having to smile even when she doesn't mean it

Being polite to people who makes her feel like she doesnt fit

She's always being told to walk like a lady

Stand tall and she will be the prettiest of all

You told her how to do her hair and what to wear

You told her she was all wrong

Made her feel like she doesn't belong

You told her she couldn’t feel what she feels

It was too far from the truth

She can't possibly feel that she is only in her youth

Trust me you said I walked down this path before

I have seen things far and wide

I wish I was my own guide

You told her to listen to your rules

Because you just know

Let these rules be with you wherever you go

Then you threw her out into the world

And told her to. be. herself.

This was inspired because of all the rules girls have to face to just live.
