With my best girl-next-door smile

I will ease his soldiers’ stiffness

- I am no threat to your king

Only a peasant, only a girl

See how my hair drapes silky

As linens on a bed. -

And I will be standing beside a man

So they will believe me,

And then

They will invite me under the gold arch

- You as well, but really I will be alone -

His throne will be immediately inside

For he has never thought to be afraid

No assassin has come to change him

Maybe thwarted,

Maybe oblivious,

Maybe none had a girl-next-door smile

And in that room of men

In steel, in gold, in wool

I am not blind that they are wolves

but I am not afraid

Because the best plans are unprecedented

And by their gold,

They are surrounded.
