A friend whos almost went,

fighting the sickness.

Struggling through the race.

Life or death is the unknown.

The feared edgy being,

Versus a majestic beast.

The controlled stillness,

or the unexpected movement.

Colorful and lively,

dark and dreary.

Always in our thoughts.

My dearly beloved,

you are sorely missed.

I had gone to the Fralin Art Museum with my Creative Writing class. There was a specific painting that caught my eye. Not for the work itself but for the story behind it. It was a painting by Kiki Smith called For David Wojnarowicz, she painted a painting of an elegant octopus and a creepy spider. She painted it in reference to her diseased friend who passed away from an illness. I wrote a poem based on the meaning of her painting, not the painting itself.
