ode to the summer it could've been
sunburnt daydreams
followed by moonlight sickness
and falling in love
the trees grabbing the sunlight
while our cheeks turn rosy
and our lips shine
3am runs and apologizes
our eyes glistening with the stars
never really hit by reality
but
reality is
the sun didn’t shine quite as bright as it has
the moon was covered by cloudy afternoons
and we couldn’t fall in love
when we were too busy pushing each other away
so
those rosy cheeks just turned red
lips fell silent
eyes glistening with tears filled with words never spoken
and hands never dared to touch
