A New Set of Eyes

As I parade down the sidewalk,

With my wide-eyed mind,

I see giants marching around me,

Known as mankind.

These titan looking creatures,

The power they posses,

Look down on us,

Like Gods nevertheless.

The strength they retain,

Can protect a nation,

And without a doubt,

Will be our salvation.

But as time goes by,

And what we see becomes new,

How we look at them,

Might no longer be true.

As I stroll down the sidewalk,

With my developed mind,

I see hatred around me,

Known as mankind.

They look overworked and underpaid,

Not a smile in sight,

I never wanted to admit,

My future was no longer bright.

The weakness they give off,

Like a feather under a brick,

Brings me down,

And makes me feel sick.

These new set of eyes,

That formed over time,

Have shown me the world,

That  isn't worth a dime.

The author's comments:

This poem is supposed to portray that how you look at the world can change over time whether it is in a good way or a bad way. In my case, I want to tell the reader about how my view on the poeple in this world has changed since I was younge and innocent. I hope people get the idea that opinions are always changing and that is okay, it is what you do with those opinions that make a difference.
