Where have the vowels gone?

I looked for A down the well, where wishes go to die.
I looked for E up in the clouds, even higher than the sky.
I looked for I, but was nowhere in sight, I really is shy.
I looked for O in the attic where he gave me a great big “Hi!”.
I looked for U by the sun, where Icarus tried to fly
I looked for Y, but it’s not really a vowel, so I don't even know why
