december
under the hazy winter overcast,
the snow makes room for my board,
as i, alone in the vast unexplored,
cut through the snow like a sword.
leaving no trail ignored,
i reach my hands up to the nearby sky,
gliding smoothly forward
as the mountains around me multiply.
when the wind swooshes through the pine and spruce,
and the sun peeks from behind his own shadow,
i slowly lift off as i am cut loose
and fly high above the blanketed snow.
i tell myself there’s nothing to lose,
except maybe a new bruise.
