i stood in the middle of the field trying to spot you in the stands,
picturing how i’d snag the ball and score.
just for you. for your happiness. your gleaming look of happiness.
to see the smile on your face and hear the words “good job” spoken from your mouth.
i fought to hear those words. words of satisfaction. the words that had driven me since childhood. the words of a proud parent.
