there are a lot of things
that are very easy to do
and i think
one of the easiest
is to underestimate pain.
because it’s so easy
for you to say
“i’ve survived that and worse” and forget that not everyone is like you
you forget that
others feel things
harder than you do
and harder than you ever will
you forget that
your actions have consequences
you forget that
things matter to other people
you forget that
other people have feelings
which is exactly what you did
you forgot that
i was also
a part of this story
you forgot that
i also have feelings
you forgot that
you and i
are not the same
and that’s the problem
this feeling
is not new to you
this feeling
is like an old friend
and you know how to handle this:
you have been for months now
i, on the other hand,
was not equipped
to deal with this
this is not something
i was
blessed
with the capacity to handle
so,
when you ask me why
i’m so drawn to you,
why i’m so infatuated with you,
why i simply cannot
let
go
i tell you
that it’s not
part of my DNA
like it is yours
i tell you
that i’m not built
to harbor
this kinda of
heartache.
i tell you
that we are not
the same.
nevertheless,
you become a
hurricane;
tearing through the town
that is my heart;
telling me
that nothing matters.
that nothing matters.
that nothing. ever.
mattered.
when he asks why
i simply cannot
let go,
i tell him
that i am not built that way
i tell him
that it’s not part
of my DNA
maybe it’s time
i start asking questions
of my own
to begin;
why is it so easy
for you
to let
go
