Poem or Essay?
A twenty line poem or two page essay,
I must write one of those two today.
The poem is short and will be done quickly,
While the essay is longer and requires thinking deeply;
But poetry is different and harder to contrive
While for essay ideas I don’t have to strive.
Sunday night arrives, up comes the moon,
I need to make a decision soon.
The paper waits blank, it’s time to go,
I need to write, and I can’t be slow.
But a poem or essay, one must be done.
Now is the time for me to choose one.
The essay will be a long and hard battle,
While the poem requires some rhyming prattle;
But now at this point I can not refuse,
The speed of the poem, so that I will choose.
The writing of this has been quite fun,
I’m almost done now. Goodbye everyone,
Until next time, whenever it may be,
I will return with more poetry.

Why write a serious essay about literature when you can do something fun like this? I read it in class and my teacher loved it.
