Ashes
my insides were burning
screaming
begging for mercy
because of the great pain
torturing my soul.
water streamed from my eyes
attempting to put out the fire
but it was far too deep
far too powerful
to be relinquished.
so instead of trying to suffocate it
I let it breathe
allowing guilt and empathy
to be its oxygen
because sometimes
the best way to survive the fire
isn't to smother it
but to let it roam free
and to mend your soul
with the ashes that remain.
