Seventy one.

What does that number represent you ask?

Maybe it was the number of days until my favourite holiday, or maybe it was the start of a countdown to a concert.

The number of pennies that sat in the jar on my dresser, or maybe the number of the math problem I forgot to do in my homework. But no, it was none of those.

Seventy one was the number of days it took me to start letting go. Seventy one days later I deleted all the photos and unfollowed your social media. I stopped thinking about you on constant repeat. I let go of everything that reminded me of you.

I was done.

Seventy one days of torture and constantly thinking that I wasn’t good enough. Seventy one days of feeling like a part of me was missing.

But now comes the number one. One of what you ask? This is day one of realizing that I am better off without you.
