Here's To MAG

Here's to the one with the three dogs
Here's to the boy within a flock of pigeons
Here's to the brave one who washed our windshield
Ashy hands clasped together in prayer.

Here's to those we ignore out of fear,
The ones who lurk alleyways searching, for everything
Sleep on park benches, cardboard at their feet
"Help," it pleads, "God Bless You"
Unspoken, (because He was not kind enough to bless me)
The ones we are told to not look at because they are dangerous
unruly
pathetic
undeserving of any empathy we have left to spare
Because they should get jobs instead of being so lazy to resort to begging

Here's to the ones no one talks about
With nothing to gain, but nothing to lose
Because ignorance is children, sweet summers and smiles
But choosing to ignore is a darker bliss
Choosing not to acknowledge
Misery accumulates loathing

Expending emotions each exchange
A gaping maw we sullenly fear

Empathy is a fossil fuel
It runs, and it runs fast
